So this Past June My fiancee planned a whole Vegas weekend for us @ the stratosphere and it was the most wonderful weekend ever, Well on our way back some Iresponsible young teenagers rear ended us they all had suspended license and insurance that was cancelled so now we have been going thru this whole ordeal or taking their parents to court. thast one This August a a 22yr old girl driving at a fast speed on a 45mph zone ran the red light end hit my fiancee's car well the good part about that was that he was ok not hurt but his car was totaled so now i have to pick him up from his house onm my way to work so he wont have to take the bus, cause he has always helped me in bad situations so now thats another problem for posponing our wedding another financial problem that comes between us and our wedding.

Hi everyone! My name is Grover. I recently served as a small enterprise development Peace Corps volunteer working with Malindi Handcraft Cooperative Society in Malindi Kenya. The cooperative was, until recently, the second largest wood carving cooperative in the country with over 600 carvers. The carvers made the most beautiful wood crafts I have ever seen (but maybe I am biased!).

After the contested presidential election in December which plunged the country into civic and social unrest, many businesses and cooperatives struggled to keep alive and struggled to keep themselves alive. Over 1000 Kenyans were killed in the violence that resulted from the unrest, and over 400,000 were displaced. Peace Corps Kenya temporarily suspended its program there, and after 16 months of service, I was sent home.

Now, the program has reopened and I will be going back in a month to resume my volunteer duties and to return to the cooperative if possible.  I have been in contact with the carvers and management during my return stateside, and I know that the business is suffering from a multitude of problems and challenges. One main problem stems from the near collapse of the tourism industry in Kenya following the election. That is why Malindi and businesses in and around the city are suffering so much. Malindi is a HUGE tourist city with many Italian, British, and German folks coming in for weeks at a time to enjoy this ancient and yet modern coastal city.

Malindi is so beautiful, it will make you cry! The ocean is clear & blue and filled with exotic creatures, both big and small. The beaches seem to stretch forever, and the landscape bordering these beautiful beaches is filled with all the wildlife one would expect to find on safari in Kenya. Ancient Swahili ruins border the city on one side, and Kenya's version of the Grand Canyon is the opposite direction. Because of all this, Malindi is a tourist magnet and the city has developed a high dependency on those tourists and the money they bring. My cooperative is no exception. 

Kenya is getting back to normal, but the tourism sector will take time to bounce back. I hope to rejoin the management soon at the cooperative and begin to formulate a plan to get back on track. The cooperative is engaged in a number of interesting projects, and I hope we can get that all restarted. I will be adding to this blog more often now that I see folks are reading about our trials & tribulations as well as our successes. I promise also to post some pictures of the city and of the cooperative, and most importantly, the wonderful people that are teaching me so much about business and about the world. They are my inspiration and the reason why I am returning. Hope you enjoy the ride!

 

 

As we said in one of our previous blogs, we love to travel.  We were fortunate enough to go on a trip a few years ago that was amazing in so many ways.  We saw the beauty and diversity of our world, learned to appreciate what we have, and we had a challenging and exciting time climbing Machu Picchu in Peru!  Enjoy the video clip....

Our family is deeply saddened at the moment and need your prayers....Shanna and Azande's baby was discharged from the hospital Tues..after birth...and was back into the hospital on Wednesday morning with a fever of 100.4...they are trying to rule out meningitis but it is a high possibility...baby Jayda had a spinal...is on an IV and is being pricked and prodded for test to figure out what is going on...please pray for our family and for strength to be brought to Shanna and Azande..this is the worst thing that could happen to new parents...the first night you have your new baby home and all she does is cry because she is already sick...we would really appreciate the love...thank you

I've been told that I'm a wonderful observer. Once by the woman that I love, and once by a drunken cougar. That seems like such a weird compliment that I'm not even sure I should take as a compliment.

I'm much more comfortable watching the crowd than participating in any kind of conversation. This is particularly true when 2 of the 4 people that I'm with are baked in more ways than one. I have nothing in common with people who treat themselves like a chemical dump, and so why should I feel obligated to make mindless conversation?

I'm fine being part of the wallpaper.

RVD is one the most underrated guys in this buisness,and I don't know why. He is the best high flyer in the history of the WWE. Many say that is Rey Mysterio,but I beg to differ. I think that he should be brought back if he ever wants to. He brings athleticism,charisma,and excitement to matches that he competes in. I have always been of fan of his,and was disappointed when he left last year.  I just bought his dvd,and that's why I brought him up. I think that he was the Whole Show in ECW. I mean he had moves that nobody else could match with his abiity and agility. The Van Daminator and the Van Terminator were some of the best and coolest moves I have seen in the 18 years that I have seen wrestling. My favorite match of his was against Jerry Lynn at Living Dangerously and his ladder match against Christian on Raw in 2003 was his best match in WWE. I just want to know what anybody thinks of him and even though he does some things that I don't think he or anyone else should do, I say he is cool in my book. Peace Out!
